Our Story: 50 Years of Financial Guidance and Trust
With over 50 years of professional experience, founder Alan Taunton has worked with a diverse range of clients across various industries. His passion for connecting with people and finding ways to help them achieve their financial goals inspired him to establish his own firm.
Alan, along with his team of skilled accountants, brings specialized knowledge and hands-on experience to tackle a wide array of accounting and tax challenges.
Since the firm’s founding, our mission has been clear: to deliver high-quality accounting, tax, and management services tailored to the unique needs of every client. We take pride in offering a comprehensive range of tax solutions designed to address the evolving needs of individuals and businesses alike.
How Our Firm Came to Be
1969 - Alan Taunton graduates from Troy University with a degree in accounting, laying the foundation for his future career in finance.
1970 - Alan begins his professional journey by joining a large multinational accounting firm in Chattanooga, TN, where he gains valuable experience.
1975 - Alan decides to leave the Chattanooga firm to join the team at a prominent CPA firm in Montgomery, AL, further advancing his career.
1977 - Alan’s hard work and dedication pay off as he becomes a partner at the Montgomery CPA firm, solidifying his reputation as a trusted financial expert.
2010 - After decades of experience, Alan steps down as partner to pursue his dream of starting his own practice in Tallassee, AL, to serve the local community.
2012 - Taunton & Company CPAs is born!
Meet the Team
J. Alan Taunton
J. Alan Taunton is a CPA with over 40 years of public accounting experience. He has worked with a vast array of business and individual clients during his professional career. He has served as chairman of the Local and State Government Committee of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accounts and has served on the local government committee of the American Institute of CPAs. He is also a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Alabama Society of CPAs, and the Tennessee Society of CPAs.
Lisa LeJeune
Lisa LeJeune, CPA, is a senior accountant with the firm. Lisa graduated from Auburn University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1994, she graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Accounting. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. Lisa worked with two large Montgomery CPA firms before joining J Alan Taunton & Company in February 2015. Her experience includes all phases of accounting and bookkeeping and a wide range of tax and planning services. She is also experienced with various computer systems including QuickBooks and Sage 509 (Peachtree.).
Gayle Taunton
Gayle Taunton worked with the predecessor firm to J Alan Taunton & Company from 1985 until the formation of the present firm. Her focus is bookkeeping, payroll services, and income tax services. She also presently serves as office manager for J Alan Taunton & Company. She has an associates degree from Massey Draughon Business College and worked with the State of Alabama and various banks prior to starting her accounting career..
Nathan Taunton
Nathan Taunton is a staff accountant with the firm. He started his career with the firm in June 2010 after receiving his degree in accounting from Auburn University – Montgomery. Nathan came to the firm after earning a degree in landscape design and horticulture at Auburn University. He operated his own business for six years. During that time he returned to school and earned his Accounting degree.
Tiffany Goodwin
Tiffany Goodwin has been employed by the firm since October 2014 and is responsible for bookkeeping services, payroll services, and various other duties. She is able to assist clients with office skills, using Excel, Word, QuickBooks and Sage 50 (Peachtree.) Tiffany attended Central Alabama Community College from August 2005 through April 2007, and completed courses to obtain an Associate of Applied Science General Business degree.
Lena Spivey
Lena Spivey began with the firm in February 2021 as receptionist with light bookkeeping duties. She has since taken on additional accounting functions to include income tax preparation, sales taxes, and payroll processing. Lena obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Auburn University in Auburn in 1992.
